Hughes reveals Tugay admirer

Mark Hughes has revealed Sir Alex Ferguson's admiration for Tugay.

Mark Hughes has revealed Sir Alex Ferguson's admiration for Blackburn Rovers' midfield maestro Tugay.

The Turkish veteran has been in sparkling form this season, and further evidence of the player's Indian summer came in last week's performance against Ferguson's Manchester United.

The 36-year-old's enduring quality is not lost on Ferguson, with the Scot as well as Hughes believing the former Galatasaray player could still grace any side in world football.

"I spoke to Sir Alex about him after the game and he was commenting on what a good player Tugay is," said Hughes.

"I told him that if Tugay was 10 years younger he'd be playing for United and Alex agreed.

"Given his ability he could play for anyone in The Premiership or even world football.

"He's a one-off. He's creative and a different type of player to the holding player most teams employ."

Tugay's form has contrasted sharply with Rovers' recent record.

Hughes's side, who face Tottenham on Sunday, have lost their last four matches in the league, but despite the loss of form, goalkeeper Brad Friedel is adamant that confidence remains an ample commodity in the Ewood Park dressing room.

"We are confident because the only game where we underperformed was against Aston Villa. There is no panic," said Friedel.

"We have lacked goals the last couple of games but we have some tremendous strikers.

"We do need three points on the board and I am convinced our luck will turn around very quickly."
