Roma admits Chelsea interest
Monaco goalkeeper Flavio Roma claims Chelsea are interested in his services.
Monaco goalkeeper Flavio Roma has stated he could quit the Principality, after confirming contact with Chelsea.Roma has been a long-term target of Arsenal but having rejected a switch to Emirates Stadium, it is Chelsea that are thought to be in the driving seat for his signature.
Chelsea's goalkeeping situation has been well documented, with Petr Cech having suffered a serious head injury, and now Roma has spoken of the champions' interest in his services.
"Arsenal are the only club I have refused, considering my private life (his wife had just given birth)," said Roma.
"Then, I never found any written agreement with the other clubs which have contacted me.
"Indeed, there has been recent contact with Chelsea, but it remains vague.
"I believe they have still not made a final decision to hire, or not, a number one keeper."
With Monaco having struggled thus far this term in Ligue 1 Roma concedes he is ready to try his hand elsewhere, going as far as to intimate that a January transfer could be in the offing.
"I could not leave last summer because I was coming back from an injury, and the previous year, we qualified for the Champions League preliminary round," he added.
"But now when I see how things evolveǪ I love the club and seeing it in trouble, that doesn't suit me.
"That is why I think about my departure. I don't put them under any pressure. Other clubs ask for information. We will see for the winter transfer window.
"I can't say I will stay until the end of the season.
"People could even be happy to see me leave. I don't feel great interest from the club."
