Fergie explains Larsson deal

Sir Alex Ferguson has explained how the deal to sign Henrik Larsson came about.

Sir Alex Ferguson has described Henrik Larsson as 'the best option' to add to Manchester United's attack and how the deal came about.

Larsson will join United on loan from Helsingborgs in January to provide extra competition for places up front.

Recently, Ferguson suggested he was keen to bring in a new striker when the transfer window reopens and felt Larsson was the ideal recruit.

"We looked around that area and without question he was the best option for us," said Ferguson on Sky Sports News.

The United chief also expanded on how a deal to bring Larsson to Old Trafford was reached via Jim Lawlor and Helsingborgs coach Stuart Baxter.

He added: "Stuart Baxter is the coach there and Jim Lawlor our chief scout worked with Stuart in South Africa.

"When we were assessing what to do in January, Jim Lawlor mentioned Henrik Larsson and with the winter break in Sweden it could be an opportunity to try it.

"We spoke to Stuart Baxter and he referred us to the board of directors.

"We have been working on it for a month now and so we've been very, very pleased they've agreed, obviously, it's been good for them to do that.

"He will join until the middle of March as it's their winter period, although they have got that Royal cup (Royal League) they play in, but we persuaded them to let him come to us for that period."
