Gray blow for Clarets

Burnley striker Andy Gray is out for the next two months with a broken right foot.

Burnley have suffered a major blow with the news that striker Andy Gray is out for the next two months with a broken foot.

The 29-year-old fractured three metatarsals in his right foot during the late stages of Tuesday's home win over Leeds United.

Scans revealed the extent of the damage in his foot, with the much-travelled goalscorer set to be sidelined until February as a result.

The news is a setback for The Clarets and Steve Cotterill's small first-team squad, as Gray's 10 goals this season have helped the Turf Moor club into the Championship's top six.

"It is obviously a blow to lose Andy, as he has been in exceptional form since he came to the club," Cotterill told Burnley's official website.

"He is a terrific team player and he will obviously be missed.

"However, it gives an exciting opportunity to a young, hungry and exciting prospect in Kyle Lafferty - and every cloud has a silver lining, ie: we won't be selling Andy in the transfer window!"

It remains to be seen if Gray's injury will prompt the former Cheltenham Town and Stoke City manager to bring in some attacking cover in the January transfer window.
