Man arrested over stabbing

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempting to murder Ronnie Wallwork.

Police in Manchester have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of attempting to murder footballer Ronnie Wallwork.

The West Brom player was stabbed in the back, hand and stomach last week in a Manchester city centre bar.

Robert Rimmer handed himself in to officers at a police station in the city at around midday on Thursday, following an appeal for him to give himself up.

Wallwork had been enjoying a night out at the Sugar Lounge bar on Whitworth Street, Manchester, on November 30th, when Rimmer attacked him, in an unprovoked assault that saw him taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Police have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder following the recent stabbing of a 29-year-old man at a city centre bar.

"The 20-year-old handed himself into a Manchester police station at about midday today. He remains in police custody for questioning."

Wallwork is said to be recovering and in a stable condition.
