Uefa overturn ban on Hunt

Uefa have overturned the ban meted out to Aaron Hunt for alleged racial abuse.

Uefa have overturned the two-match ban meted out to Germany Under-21 star Aaron Hunt for alleged racial abuse of two England Under-21 players.

Anton Ferdinand and Micah Richards claim they were abused during October's European Under-21 Championship play-off game which England won 2-0.

The Werder Bremen forward denied the accusations but was found guilty of gross unsporting conduct by Uefa in November.

Hunt was vehement in his innocence, however, and the case was then brought before Uefa's appeals committee.

The body have now ruled in Hunt's favour and the player has expressed his delight at the verdict.

"I had no reason to feel guilty, which is why I am happy that the accusations have been lifted," Hunt told Bremen's official website.

The decision to overturn Hunt's ban was also welcomed by his club.

"The outcome of this case confirms our observations and comments over the last few weeks. Racism is not an issue in our team whatsoever," said Bremen director of football Klaus Allofs.

Coach Thomas Schaaf added: "We have supported Aaron a lot in this issue and now welcome the way it has concluded. To pen Aaron into a corner was incorrect."
