The club had feared that their number one could be lured away from Molineux, but he has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with an option in place to extend the commitment by a further 12 months should the club return to the Premiership.
McCarthy was relieved to thrash out a new deal with the keeper, as he told the club's website: "It's great news for the club that Matt has re-signed.
"We are trying to build a team here and that's a huge boost because we all rate him very highly and think he's one of the best keepers in the country.
"This shows his commitment to Wolves and I'm thrilled."
