Jagielka warning for Warnock
Phil Jagielka has urged Neil Warnock not to break up Sheff Utd's team spirit in January.
Sheffield United midfielder Phil Jagielka has urged Neil Warnock not to break up the squad's team spirit when he delves into the transfer market in January. The Blades have made a good start to the season, and claimed a point from their 2-2 draw at home to Aston Villa on Monday to take them up to 16th in the Premiership.
Nevertheless, Warnock plans to add to his squad in the winter transfer window as he looks to secure the team's top-flight status and Jagielka has urged his manager to be cautious about the adverse effects it could have on the camp.
"We have an honest bunch of lads who work for one another. The team spirit is fantastic, and we're fighting for every point we can get," Jagielka explained.
"The gaffer will think about what he has here first and foremost before he signs anyone.
"It's all very well having all the ability in the world, but you need to settle into the team.
"Given how we are, you need to be a team player to do well here. We can't have individuals who fancy it some weeks and don't fancy it others.
"We're all about team spirit and hopefully he can pick the right people."
With seven points from their last three games against Watford, Charlton Athletic and Villa, Jagielka believes the team are starting to forge a name for themselves in the top division.
"We're here on merit. We've realised that if we turn up and start appearing inferior to other teams then we are going to get beaten," he added.
"Before the season started we were second favourites for the drop. No-one was giving us a cat in hell's chance.
"But a lot of people will be eating their words at the moment, and we have to make sure they are still doing that come May."
Next up for United is a difficult trip to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
