Terry reveals Duff pain

John Terry has said that Damien Duff was 'gutted' to leave Chelsea.

John Terry has revealed how emotional Damien Duff was when he left Chelsea for Newcastle this summer.

After signing for Chelsea from Blackburn in 2003, Duff played an essential role in helping the club to back-to-back Premiership titles.

However, after falling down the pecking order in his last few months at Stamford Bridge he was allowed to join The Magpies in July for £5 million.

And Terry has recalled how upset Duff was to leave Chelsea as he said a tearful farewell to his team-mates.

"He really filled up the day he left Chelsea and he said he never thought he would be like that at a football club," Terry reflected.

"He said he wasn't like that at Blackburn and Duffer was at Blackburn a long time.

"He was gutted to leave Chelsea."

Newcastle travel to Chelsea on Wednesday evening but Duff will not be able to face his former employers as he is recovering from a cartilage operation.
