Birmingham stay top after a 3-0 away win against Sheffield Wednesday.
Birmingham and Derby are still the top two sides in The Championship as Cardiff slipped from third to fifth following a shock 4-1 defeat away to Hull.
Birmingham eased to a 3-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, taking the lead through former Spurs midfielder Stephen Clemence (42) after on-loan Fulham keeper Mark Crossley spilled a swerving Cameron Jerome shot into his path.
And Gary McSheffrey (65) added a second when he drilled home from inside the area before Cameron Jerome (94) completed the scoring.
Derby, meanwhile, remain in second spot after new loan signing David Jones (22) scored his first goal for the club to hand them a victory at home to Crystal Palace.
The Palace defence was exposed time and again in the first half as The Rams showed their quality, but Palace came back at them after half-time, looking by far the better side and highly unfortunate not to convert their chances.
It was Hull who provided the result of the day, tearing up the form book by thrashing Cardiff at The KC Stadium.
Hull went 2-0 up inside 10 minutes, with goals from Damien Delaney (6) and Dean Marney (9), as the visitors failed to get into gear.
It was around half an hour before Cardiff began to threaten, but their fight-back was frustrated when Craig Fagan (36) added a third.
They eventually hit back in the second half through Michael Chopra (55), but substitute Michael Bridges (71) made it 4-1 with a tap-in shortly after coming on for Nick Barmby.
It could have been five, too, with Stephen McPhee hitting the bar after attempting to chip a 75th-minute penalty over Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Alexander, but it marked an amazing result for a side who have struggled to find the net this year.
Over at Deepdale, Preston took advantage of Cardiff's defeat as they recorded an easy 3-0 win over mid-table Plymouth to go third.
Danny Pugh rescued what was becoming a scrappy game with a moment of magic after 12 minutes, scoring a screaming half-volley from around 25 yards to hand Preston the lead.
They added a second on 41 minutes through former Southampton man Brett Ormerod, before captain Graham Alexander (56) made it 3-0 from the penalty spot.
Southampton moved into fourth place with a 2-1 win over Norwich at St Mary's.
Despite The Saints' dominance, it was Robert Earnshaw (21) who broke the deadlock at St Mary's to give Norwich a lead, but 17-year-old wonderkid Gareth Bale (41) restored parity with a 30-yard free-kick just before half-time and Kenwyne Jones (65) headed The Saints into the lead from a Jermaine Wright corner.
Colchester made history when they recorded their highest ever league position.
They moved into the playoffs ahead of Stoke after beating them 3-0 at Layer Road.
The home side took a two-goal lead through Jamie Cureton, first with a 20-yard strike into the top right side of the net after two minutes followed by a close range strike 15 minutes later, before Richard Garcia (63) rounded off the scoring.
West Brom also had a good day, winning 5-0 against Coventry.
They got off to the best possible start when Diomansy Kamara drilled the ball home from close range after just 28 seconds at The Hawthorns, and Kamara was able to add a second from the penalty spot on 33 minutes after he had been brought down by Marcus Hall.
And things just got better for Tony Mowbray's men as Jason Koumas (39) added a third, Kevin Phillips (57) scored his first in nine games and Paul Robinson (83) completed the rout.
Promotion contenders Burnley were left disappointed after throwing away a 2-0 lead against Sunderland at Turf Moor.
Burnley took a lead on nine minutes through Kyle Lafferty, and a dreadful Dwight Yorke headed backpass put Lafferty (52) clean through to clinically slide home a second.
But Grant Leadbitter (80) scored with a fine effort late on to put The Black Cats back in contention, and David Connolly (90) levelled things up at the death to claim an unlikely point.
Despite dominating the first-half, QPR lost 1-0 to Wolves at Loftus Road as a deflected shot from on-loan midfielder Michael Kightly (49) handed him his first goal for the club since moving from Grays Athletic.
Meanwhile, Leicester striker Elvis Hammond (45) took advantage of a rebound from a Danny Tiatto shot to pile the pressure on fellow strugglers Barnsley at the Walkers Stadium.
And it got worse for The Tykes when a sublime piece of skill from Levi Porter (52) allowed him a close range finish to make it 2-0.
But Leeds boss Dennis Wise may be the unhappiest boss after he was handed an unwelcome 40th birthday present at Portman Road.
Gavin Williams put Ipswich ahead on the stroke of half-time to secure a 1-0 victory that leaves Leeds second bottom of the table.
