Latvian heading for Seaside
Blackpool have agreed a deal with Latvia international defender Kaspars Gorkss.
Blackpool have moved early to make their first January signing in the form of Latvia international Kaspars Gorkss. The 25-year-old is expected to complete his move to English football and The Seasiders on January 1 when his contract with recently-crowned Latvian champions Ventspils expires.
Gorkss has agreed a contract until June 2008 with the League One club - with an option to extend the deal for a further year.
The defender is comfortable at either centre-back or left-back, and has experienced playing against British sides at both club and international level this autumn.
Gorkss faced Premiership side Newcastle United in the earlier rounds of this season's Uefa Cup and earned one of his three Latvia international caps in a Euro 2008 qualifier in Northern Ireland back in October.
The Baltic player's arrival follows the summer investment made by Latvian businessman Valery Belokon.
Blackpool, meanwhile, have taken hometown youngster Dax Hoogerwerf on 'work experience' from his parent club Everton.
