Plummer quits football

Peterborough defender Chris Plummer has announced his retirement from football.

Peterborough United defender Chris Plummer has announced his retirement from football with immediate effect.

The 30-year-old has opted to quit the sport in favour of a new career in financial services.

After spending loan spells with Conference duo Grays Athletic and Rushden & Diamonds this season, Plummer feels the time is right to move on.

Posh have agreed to cancel his contract by mutual consent and Plummer explained his decision to change professions.

"It feels right to move into something different," Plummer told the club's official website.

"A few years ago, I dropped from QPR to Barnet and it was a bit of an eye-opener regarding the salary. I had a look at it then and it interested me.

"As you reach 30 and beyond, you have to make a decision.

"These are exciting times at London Road and I would love to have been a part of that, but it's not to be, and after a couple of loan spells in the Conference, I didn't want that trend to continue."
