Atouba eyes HSV stay
Thimothee Atouba says he wants to continue his career at Hamburg.
Hamburg defender Thimothee Atouba says he wants to continue his career at the club despite the controversy surrounding his UEFA Champions League sending off.The Cameroon star, who made several obscene gestures to the home crowd after being substituted in HSV's game against CSKA Moscow last week, hopes he can put the incident behind him and continue his career with the Bundesliga outfit.
"I was provoked, but I know that it was an unacceptable gesture," he told Sport Bild.
"But I'm not perfect and I would like to publicly apologise for my mistakes."
Atouba, who was handed a two-match ban and a heavy fine by the club, admitted that he initially considered throwing in the towel at Hamburg after the incident, but now says he is determined to make his mark with the struggling Bundesliga team.
"My family likes it here in Hamburg. I am not scared about returning to play in the AOL Arena," the 24-year-old said.
