Bury thrown out of cup
Bury have been thrown out of the FA Cup for fielding an ineligible player at Chester City.
Bury have been thrown out of the FA Cup for fielding an ineligible player in their second round replay at Chester City.An FA Cup sub-committee found The Shakers breached competition rules when they played on-loan midfielder Stephen Turnbull in the 3-1 win over The Blues earlier this month.
The Gigg Lane outfit, and Turnbull's parent club in League Two rivals Hartlepool United, failed to inform The Football Association that the midfielder was given permission to play in the FA Cup with Chris Casper's side.
Subject to an appeal from Bury, Chester have been reinstated in the competition and will now play Championship side Ipswich Town in the third round early next month.
Should The Shakers opt to appeal against the decision, a hearing will be held on Thursday 28th December.
Turnbull, meanwhile, has extended his loan with Bury for another month from Hartlepool.
