Shelton deal concerns Cotterill

Burnley boss Steve Cotterill has been concerned with Jamaican Luton Shelton's progress.

Burnley boss Steve Cotterill has been paying close attention to speculation surrounding Jamaican international Luton Shelton, after being denied the player previously.

The young striker completed a successful trial with The Clarets, and looked set to move to England at the start of last season, before having his application for a work permit rejected.

Shelton then went on to join Swedish club Helsingborgs where he has blossomed, scoring 17 goals last term.

Sheffield United have been closely linked with a bid to bring Shelton to England, although Cotterill insists he has justifiable grievances.

"I've noticed that a few clubs are in for him and it would be interesting if he got clearance to play for them," Cotterill explained.

"We were told in no uncertain terms that he wouldn't improve us or improve English football so it would be interesting to see where he turns up and it's something we might have a look at and follow up.

"Why should he be turned down for Burnley? It will be interesting to see if playing in Sweden has made the difference and to see if the same people are on the panel.

"It was disappointing at the time and I don't know if that's something we'll be revisiting."
