Gallas hits out at Chelsea
Arsenal defender William Gallas has criticised former club Chelsea.
Arsenal defender William Gallas has revealed that a row over his shirt number contributed towards his exit from Chelsea.Gallas joined The Gunners in August in a deal that took Ashley Cole in the opposite direction.
He had been at loggerheads with Chelsea for much of the summer after rebuffing the club's attempts to secure him to a new contract.
And he believes Chelsea's decision to hand summer signing Michael Ballack his No 13 shirt was completely disrespectful.
"Even if it seems surreal, the business of the shirt shook me," he explained.
"Nicking the No 13 shirt off me to give it to Ballack was a flagrant lack of respect.
"I could have honoured the last year of my contract and been free at the end of the season.
"But that would not have been honest with Chelsea. In my head, I was no longer there."
