Sidwell plans Reading talks
Steve Sidwell has revealed his intention to discuss a new contract with Reading.
Steve Sidwell has revealed his intention to discuss a new contract with Reading in the near future.
The midfielder's present deal expires at the end of the season and he has been linked with several other Premiership clubs.
Reading boss Steve Coppell will not sell Sidwell during the January transfer window and hopes to convince the player to stay at The Madejski Stadium.
Sidwell has yet to make a decision on his future, but confirmed his plan to speak to the club regarding a new deal.
"We've touched base throughout the season and obviously we're in the window now," Sidwell told the club's official website.
"I'm not sure when the club will approach me, but hopefully we can knuckle something down."
Meanwhile, Coppell admits any January signings will be with a view to the long-term success of Reading.
Coppell told Sky Sports News: "We are vulnerable in a couple of positions and are looking to strengthen.
"There are certain signings we'd like to make, just in terms of the progress of the club long term, not specifically for the next four months.
"We have a certain photo-fit of the Reading type of signing and if we can make a couple of those we will do."
