Leicester earn Fulham replay
Leicester posted a fine display to earn a deserved 2-2 draw with Fulham in the FA Cup.
Leicester posted a fine display to earn themselves a deserved 2-2 draw with Premiership opposition Fulham in the third round of the FA Cup at The Walkers Stadium. There were plenty of chances for both sides to get on the scoresheet and Championship side Leicester appeared to have the upper hand when Fulham's opener arrived courtesy of Brian McBride in the 69th minute.
The hosts deservedly equalised just 10 minutes later as Patrick Kisnorbo headed home before Moritz Volz netted what appeared to be the winner for Fulham in the 83rd minute, only for Danny Cadamarteri to earn Leicester a replay with his injury time strike.
Fulham's league superiority did not stand out throughout. From the outset Leicester pushed on goal as firstly Gareth Williams sent an effort soaring over the crossbar before Iain Hume tried his luck just moments later but he hit the side netting.
The home side's instant pressure seemed to act as a motivator for Fulham as they began to mount an attack. Liam Rosenior pushed forward in a bid to pick out McBride and it looked like keeper Paul Henderson may falter but he safely held onto the ball before Tomas Radzinski tried his luck.
But the Foxes showed no signs of succumbing to their Premiership rivals and there was little to separate the status of the two sides as a powerful effort from Stephen Hughes fell wide.
On the half hour Voltz was open on goal but Henderson proved to be the hero once again for Leicester as he safely held onto the ball. Despite some frantic activity in front of both goals in the closing stages of the first half, neither side could capitalise on their opportunities.
Routledge looked to have beaten Henderson with a blinding run but it failed to amount to an effort on goal as Leicester responded by testing Jan Lastuvka. Rosenior tried to seek out Helguson at the other end as a goalmouth scramble from the hosts failed to produce any clear cut chances before Routledge's free-kick breezed over the bar.
Leicester kept on the pace after the break as captain Patrick McCarthy sent the ball wide and Hume and Kisnorbo blitzed it over the bar. At the other end a 50 yard run from Elliot Omozusi resulted in him scuffing wide from seven yards out as Fulham failed to make the most of a number of chances from set pieces.
But Fulham opened the scoring in the 69th minute on the counterattack. Michael Brown released McBride down the middle and he made no mistake as he slotted home past Henderson.
Leicester refused to be compounded by going a goal down and it earned them an equaliser as Kisnorbo headed home in the 80th minute but their joy was shortlived as three minutes later Volz powered home for Fulham.
Two minutes into injury time though Levi Porter sent the ball into the edge of the box and Cadamarteri struck with his left foot into the top corner of the net.
