More trouble for Atouba
Thimothee Atouba was sent home from Hamburg's training camp in Dubai.
Thimothee Atouba was sent home from Hamburg's training camp in Dubai after criticising the club's medical department. The former Tottenham player, who is suffering from shin bone problems, had publicly slammed Hamburg's decision that he must join his team-mates for the trip to the Middle East and has now been told that he will be sacked if he causes another upset.
"This is the last warning [for him] and now nothing else should happen," stressed coach Thomas Doll.
Hamburg have suffered a disastrous campaign so far as they sit second from bottom in the Bundesliga and had to face early exits from both the UEFA Champions League and the DFB Cup, and Doll has made it clear that he will not allow anyone to upset his team's preparations for the restart of the Bundesliga as they face a struggle for survival.
Earlier this season, the 24-year-old Cameroon international had made obscene gestures towards Hamburg supporters who booed and whistled during the Champions League game against CSKA Moscow.
Atouba, who was banned for two games by his club, later claimed that he had been provoked by racist comments. He was welcomed back to training with his team-mates after a public apology, but the recent incident has plunged his AOL-Arena future into doubt again.
