Ward set to seal Wolves switch

Wolves are set to seal the capture of Bohemians striker Stephen Ward.

The 21-year-old needs to complete a routine medical before penning a two-and-a-half year deal at Molineux.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy admits Ward might be lacking match fitness, but he hopes to have him in his Championship line-up sooner rather than later.

"Stephen's season finished a while ago so he is going to need to get his match fitness up," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"But I've not brought him here to play for the reserves - he will be involved with the first team.

"He's a central striker but he has played left wing so it's nice that you have got players who can adapt.

"He's six-foot, good in the air and has an eye for goal. So far in training he has been excellent with his finishing."

Wolves' spending is not done yet and they could bolster their ranks further after agreeing a deal with Liverpool to retain Darren Potter's services permanently.

Potter, who had a spell with Southampton last term, is currently on loan at Wolves and is now discussing personal terms with the Midlands outfit.
