Preston sign Czech defender

Preston North End have signed former Sparta Prague defender Pavel Pergl.

Preston North End have signed former Sparta Prague defender Pavel Pergl on a contract until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old, whose contract with Sparta expired at the end of last month, makes the move to Deepdale after a successful trial with Paul Simpson's side.

After a spell in Germany's Bundesliga Zwei with Dynamo Dresden last season, Pergl was keen for another move abroad and has opted to join The Lilywhites before Wednesday's deadline.

Pergl was pleased to have the chance to put his career back on track with Preston after an acrimonious parting with Sparta.

"I am very happy because I haven't played for three or four months because I've been having contract difficulties with Sparta Prague," Pergl told the club's official website.

"So I am very happy to have signed a contract at Preston.

"The only problem at the moment is the language barrier, but I've arrived and seen that everyone here is a good footballer and they've all welcomed me to the club very nicely and I hope to start learning English as soon as possible."
