Mowbray ready to let Zubi go
Tony Mowbray has told Pascal Zuberbuhler he will not stand in his way if he wants to leave.
Tony Mowbray has told Pascal Zuberbuhler he will not stand in his way if he wants to leave West Bromwich Albion. The Swiss goalkeeper signed for The Baggies last summer and started the first 15 games of the season before losing his place to Russell Hoult.
Hoult left the club in January and Zuberbuhler came in for the 3-0 FA Cup victory at Wolves, but Dean Kiely subsequently arrived from Portsmouth and has started West Brom's last two games.
And Mowbray, who has respect for Zuberbuhler's professionalism, is ready to accept any decision he makes about his future.
"You want players to be disappointed when they're not selected," Mowbray told West Brom's official website.
"Zubi is disappointed because he kept a clean sheet at Molineux and would have hoped to keep his place.
"But it's my job to make decisions. You stand or fall by your decisions in football.
"I've said many times before Zubi is a model professional and works extremely hard at his game. He is a very proud man and wants to play - I understand that."
Zuberbuhler is aiming to establish himself as Switzerland's number one for Euro 2008 and Mowbray knows he will want to play more regularly at club level.
"If he can facilitate himself a move away from the football club in order to help his career and make sure he's playing in the build-up to the European Championships, that's no problem," said Mowbray.
"I'm very respectful of him because he has been a consummate professional in my time here through the disappointments of being left out of the team.
"He knows we won't stand in his way if a club enquires about him."
