Jol rues Ronaldo pen

Martin Jol rued Mark Clattenburg's decision to award Manchester United a penalty

Martin Jol rued referee Mark Clattenburg's decision to award Manchester United a penalty, after Steed Malbranque appeared to make minimal contact with Cristiano Ronaldo in the box.

Ronaldo dusted himself down to dispatch from 12 yards to open the scoring just prior to half-time and while United were value for their consequent 4-0 success, before their opener and the game had been even.

Tottenham boss Jol stopped short of accusing Ronaldo of diving but he was willing to concede that he had been left very disappointed by the decision.

"I don't think it was a penalty but Steed Malbranque stuck his foot out and pulled it in again," said Jol.

"He took advantage of that but I don't know. It didn't help.

"The referee must make a decision, he is a human being. He was standing there with a good view of it.

"I wouldn't say Ronaldo was diving. It was a difficult situation."
