Capello stands firm on Becks
Fabio Capello has defended his decision to exclude David Beckham.
Fabio Capello defended his decision to exclude David Beckham as Real Madrid's struggles continued with a 1-0 home defeat to Levante.Capello declared when Beckham agreed to join Los Angeles Galaxy that the Englishman would not play again for Real.
Capello has so far been true to his word with Beckham not playing since the defeat to Deportivo La Coruna on January 7.
And although Real have lost four of their last six league games and are currently fourth in the table, Capello believes he is right to keep Beckham frozen out.
"He has been here three years and the results have not been good," said Capello.
"We are trying a new line-up, and I am waiting for important players (to return from injury).
"I am convinced by my decisions. For example, he played against Depor and we lost."
Sunday's surprise loss to Levante prompted fans to chant for the resignation of Capello and president Ramon Calderon, while the Spanish press have been scathing in their criticism of the coach.
In the post match press conference Capello said he was not considering resigning, and that his future was in the hands of Calderon.
The Spanish media have also reported that Calderon held a meeting with sports director Predrag Mijatovic to discuss Capello on Sunday evening.
But Real defender Michel Salgado has given his support Capello, urging everyone at the club to take more responsibility.
"You can understand that people are tired and bored because it has been like this for three and a half years," said Salgado.
"The only solution is to continue working. The blame is on everyone, not just the coach or the players.
"We have to back Capello. It is more important than ever to be united."
