Hangeland a Hammers target

FC Copenhagen defender Brede Hangeland claims West Ham showed an interest.

FC Copenhagen defender Brede Hangeland claims West Ham United showed an interest during January's transfer window.

Hangeland's team-mate Michael Gravgaard was the subject of a failed bid from The Hammers, who eventually signed Matthew Upson from Birmingham City.

Alan Curbishley appeared keen to add to his centre-half ranks in January and asked about both Gravgaard and Hangeland.

The Norwegian, who played in all six of Copenhagen's UEFA Champions League group matches, was made aware of the interest.

But Hangeland admits he is in no rush to quit the Danish side and is under contract to the club until the end of 2009.

"The agents talked, but that was all," Hangeland is quoted in The Independent.

"It never ended in anything concrete.

"I'm in no hurry (to leave), but playing against Manchester United was a great experience."
