Northampton Town have eased their injury crisis by signing Reading's Alex Pearce.

Northampton Town have eased their injury crisis by signing Reading teenager Alex Pearce on a month's loan.

Cobblers boss Stuart Gray moved to bring in the 18-year-old following injury concerns to regular centre-backs Chris Doig and Sean Dyche.

Pearce will join the Northampton squad for Saturday's trip to League One high-flyers Nottingham Forest.

"We currently have Chris Doig, Sean Dyche, Pedj Bojic, Fred Murray and Brett Johnson all out or struggling from a defensive point of view," Gray told Northampton's official website.

"He has a good pedigree and has been away with the Scotland Under 19 squad this week.

"We are grateful to (Reading boss) Steve Coppell for allowing him to come here and we are pleased that Alex himself is happy to make the move."
