Pouso wants Charlton exit

Omar Pouso is aiming to leave Charlton to return to his former club Penarol in Uruguay.

Omar Pouso is aiming to leave Charlton Athletic to return to his former club Penarol in Uruguay.

The midfielder joined The Addicks on loan last summer, with a view to a £1.5million permanent move at the end of the season.

But Pouso has played just 57 minutes of Premiership football, with his sole outing coming against Portsmouth in September.

Injuries have hampered his progress, but he has not featured for the top-flight strugglers since Alan Pardew took over as manager.

His agent Gerardo Rabajda has now travelled to England in an attempt to cancel Pouso's contract with Charlton.

Rabajda revealed that the player is fearful for his place in the Uruguayan national team, if he remains on the periphery at The Valley.

"I am travelling to England to end the contract of Omar Pouso at Charlton Athletic because the player has told me that he doesn't want to continue in a team in which he doesn't play, because that takes chances away from him for being recalled to the Uruguayan national team," Rabajda told the Uruguayan media.

Should Pouso secure his release from Charlton, then coach Gregorio Perez is keen to have him back at Penarol, who are the only club he can join until the summer.

Rabajda added: "According to the Uruguayan FA rules, the only team in which he can play is at Penarol, so I expect to get everything resolved as soon as possible because the coach of Penarol wants to have the player in his team before the championship begins."
