Dailly rues Hammers injuries
Christian Dailly feels West Ham are suffering similar injury problems to four years ago.
Christian Dailly believes West Ham are suffering similar injury problems to when they were last relegated in 2003.The Hammers failed to beat the drop four seasons ago despite amassing 42 points over the course of the season.
Dailly was part of the talented squad which surprisingly finished in the bottom three but he believes they underachieved due to injuries to key players.
The current Hammers side are five points from safety with just 11 games of the season remaining, despite again starting the campaign with high hopes.
Dean Ashton has been sidelined all season with a broken ankle and new signings like Matthew Upson and Lucas Neill have been hit by injuries, and Dailly is seeing worryingly familiar signs.
"That year we seemed to be beset by injuries that kept some of our top players out of vial games and this year seems to be similar," he said.
"There is no way we are giving up the fight though."
Alan Curbishley has not managed to turn the club's fortunes around as yet and has introduced double training sessions to address some of the problems.
Dailly explained: "One of the problems of a new manager coming in mid-season is that he does not have enough time to see what the players can do in training.
"He is basing a lot of his assessments on what he sees in matches and that is nowhere near as ideal."
