Tymoschuk set to move on

Anatolii Tymoschuk - a former target for Wigan - is set to join Zenit St Petersburg.

Anatolii Tymoschuk is set to join Zenit St Petersburg after revealing Wigan Athletic and Celtic made bids in January.

The Ukraine midfielder has settled on personal terms with Zenit and is waiting for the Russian outfit to agree a fee with his current club Shakhtar Donetsk.

During the January transfer window, Tymoschuk was the subject of strong interest, but admitted no clubs were able to match Shakhtar's ‚é¼10million (£6.7million) asking price.

"Feyenoord, Celtic, Roma, Fiorentina and other clubs were interested in me, but they didn't succeed in negotiations with my club concerning the transfer fee," Tymoschuk told the Russian media.

"The best offer was made by Wigan this January, but Shakhtar refused it too."

Shakhtar owner and president Rinat Ahmetov confirmed discussions are taking place with a view to Tymoschuk's sale, but claimed the player rejected a move to England.

Ahmetov said: "At the moment Tymoschuk is a Shakhtar player and he hasn't signed any other contracts.

"We can let him leave, but only for the right sum of money.

"We had offers from England and the transfer sum was suitable for us, but Anatolii decided to stay.

"At the moment, Anatolii has a few offers and we are in transfer negotiations."
