The Colombian midfield star, whose arrival has coincided with an upsurge in Mainz's fortunes, limped out of Saturday's 2-1 win over high-flying Nurnberg with a knee injury.

Ligament damage was diagnosed soon after the game and Soto underwent an operation on Monday morning.

Early reports from the club say that the 26-year-old should be able to begin training in four weeks' time.

However it is as yet uncertain as to when he can return to action with the first team.
