Heinze still ruing lost season
Gabriel Heinze insists Man Utd's success has not made up for his injury nightmare.
Gabriel Heinze insists Manchester United's superb season has not made up for the injury nightmare he endured last term. The Argentine full-back missed virtually all of the 2005/6 campaign after damaging his cruciate knee ligament in United's UEFA Champions League clash against Villarreal.
He has battled his way back to fitness and is set to start against Lille on Wednesday as United continue their hunt for silverware.
Heinze is delighted United are still in the running for the Champions League and FA Cup, as well as being in pole position to claim the Premiership title.
But he admits the success that could lie ahead does not compensate for his year on the sidelines.
"Nothing will make up for an injury like that. No player likes to be out for that long," said Heinze.
"But it is nice to be fighting on all three fronts this season.
"We have a strong squad of players and the main thing for us all is to be ready to fight for a place."
