Posh pounce for starlet

Peterborough have beaten a host of clubs to non-league starlet Danny Blanchett

Peterborough United have beaten a host of clubs to the signing of highly-rated non-league starlet Danny Blanchett

The 19-year-old left back, who trained with Liverpool recently, was due to link-up with Watford and Wolves this week.

However, Peterborough have stepped in to secure his signing on a permanent deal from Cambridge City.

"I am really exited about this move, it is a good club to sign for," Blanchett told the club's website.

"Peterborough are an ambitious club, the chairman wants to go places and the manager matches that ambition.

"I want to play first team football and hopefully I will get that opportunity here. A few clubs have watched me at Cambridge City, but I just kept my head down and did my job. I thought as a young player Peterborough would be the ideal club for me."

Manager Darren Ferguson (pictured) was delighted with the coup, saying: "He has been tracked by loads of clubs including Wolves and Everton, he has good size and pace.

"We have brought a lot of young players in and he is no different. He has good potential, is ambitious and that's what we want at this football club."
