Redknapp proud of players

Harry Redknapp was happy with his side's display in the 0-0 draw with Reading.

Reading started strongly but Pompey battled back and controlled the second half, with Richard Hughes hitting the post from distance.

There were few other chances for either side but Redknapp felt his side were perhaps unlucky not to emerge with all three points.

"I thought we played well and dominated the second half really," Redknapp told Sky Sports.

"We had loads of possession and with a little bit more quality on our final ball I thought we could have opened them up and finished the game.

"And then we had Richard Hughes' great strike that hit the inside of the post so I was pleased with how we played.

"They started brightly but they are a good team. They've had a terrific season and this isn't an easy place to come.

"They've got something about them, a never-say-die attitude, and you've got to come here and match them and I thought we did that, and eventually in the second half we were the team most likely to win for sure."

Pompey have failed to score in six of their last seven Premiership games and their hopes of finishing in a European spot appear to be fading, but Redknapp insists his players should be proud of their season whatever happens over the next couple of months.

He explained: "I'm not concerned at all really (by our lack of goals). I thought we played well, and we played well against Chelsea last time.

"We've got to keep playing as we are at the moment and if we stay in the top half of the table it will be a great year for us.

"It (Europe) would be nice, a fantastic bonus. But at the start of the year you have to be realistic and staying in the Premiership is the key."

Redknapp also paid tribute to Arnold Mvuemba, who impressed in midfield.

"He can play, he's a good footballer. He's a young player with terrific potential," praised Redknapp.

"He's got a good attitude, he can play and pass it, and I've been very pleased with him."
