Aiden Palmer has told Leyton Orient he is desperate to earn a new contract after making his first appearance for the club in over a year.

The 20-year-old left-back has found himself down the pecking order at Brisbane Road, but an ankle injury to Matt Lockwood allowed Palmer to make a rare first-team appearance against Scunthorpe on Saturday.

And, with Lockwood due to be out for a month, Palmer is expecting more opportunities to prove to boss Martin Ling that he deserves to stay at the club beyond the end of his current deal, which expires this summer.

"I was very pleased to just get out there and get a game under my belt, first of all, and for it to go well was a bonus, especially as the gaffer and Dean Smith were pleased with my performance," he told the Leyton Guardian.

"I've just got to get my head down and work hard in these games to show the boss what I can do. I'm out of contract at the end of the season, but I love this club so much I want to stay here really badly.

"I just want to make sure my future is at this football club."
