Guthrie stays with Saints
Danny Guthrie has extended his loan at Southampton until the end of the season.
Liverpool midfielder Danny Guthrie has extended his loan at Southampton until the end of the season.
Guthrie originally joined on a month's loan in early March and has made three appearances for George Burley's promotion chasers.
He will now spend the remainder of the campaign at St Mary's, with Burley having been impressed by the youngster.
"I spoke to Danny and he is keen to stay longer and we want to keep him, so we have extended the deal," Burley told the club's official website.
"I am very pleased with him. He is a young player with a lot of ability who did very well against Colchester and we want to keep him for the full three months."
Meanwhile, Paraguayan starlet Luiz Paez has explained the reason behind his decision to shun Liverpool in favour of Sporting Lisbon.
Paez had trained with Rafa Benitez's side, but the teenager admits he preferred the warmer climate of Portugal.
He is quoted by the Daily Mail: "I rejected the move for many reasons outside of football, like the cold, the problems with the language and the atmosphere of the city.
"The atmosphere in Lisbon appealed more."
