Svensson rejects loan deal

Rangers defender Karl Svensson has rejected a return to IFK Gothenburg on loan.

Rangers defender Karl Svensson has rejected the chance to join former club IFK Gothenburg on loan despite falling down the pecking order at Ibrox.

Svensson, who has one cap for Sweden, was signed by former Rangers boss Paul Le Guen, but has found himself out of the first team since Walter Smith took charge.

Although he admits he is desperate to play, he is adamant that he will remain in Glasgow and try to force his way into Smith's plans.

"I am not interested in a loan deal," he told the Rangers official website.

"However, I want to play and need playing time. At the moment, I'm not getting much and that needs to change.

"It has been a good experience for me in Scotland, even if it has been up and down on a personal level and also for the team.

"I had quite a tough start, but then I thought I was playing better and better all the time.

"For the last two months or so, I have been out of the team and I hope I can get back into the team in the future.

"I simply have to train hard and show that I deserve to return.

"I have learned a lot this year. It has been a new style of life for me as well as a new style of football."
