Collins ready for six-pointer

James Collins is relishing the chance to star in Saturday's game against Sheff Utd.

Alan Curbishley's side have embarked on an impressive, and deeply necessary three-game winning streak, and another victory at Bramall Lane would put them level with 17th-placed Charlton.

Collins has played a key role in claiming clean sheets in the last two wins against Middlesbrough and Arsenal, and the Welsh international insists spirits are high at Upton Park at present.

"Everyone's buzzing with the three points from the Arsenal game and there is no reason why we can't take the confidence into tomorrow [Saturday]," said Collins.

"In the last few games we have given ourselves a massive chance. Tomorrow's game is absolutely massive, it's a six-pointer.

"If we win we are right back in the fight."

Collins has suffered a stop-start season due to a number of fitness problems, but he admits that recent injuries to Matthew Upson and Danny Gabbidon have given him the perfect chance to showcase his skills.

"I still have a bit to prove to West Ham fans about what I can do," Collins added.

"Coming up to the FA Cup final last season I played somewhere near where I can but I haven't been anywhere near the level I know I can play at.

"Hopefully two clean sheets in the last two games will have shown them something.

"Because of the boys out of the side at the moment, that gave me belief that I had to come in and do well."

Hammers boss Curbishley has also welcomed Collins' input, stating: "I am glad he has come back into the team. He has brought some aggression, enthusiasm and freshness to the team."
