Coupet open to English move

Lyon keeper Gregory Coupet admits he is tempted by a move to the Premiership.

Gregory Coupet admits he is tempted by a move to the Premiership as he considers his future at Lyon.

The France international is discussing an extension to his Stade Gerland contract, which has a further 12 months to run.

But the 33-year-old feels his age could be a problem and that has prompted the goalkeeper to contemplate a switch to England.

"We are in talks as I have one year remaining on my contract," Coupet told France Football.

"There are two solutions - either the club prolongs my deal until 2010 or they sell me.

"Ten years after my arrival at l'OL, maybe the club can still earn some money from me, so we will see.

"In France, age is a real issue. Even the chairman, who knows my daily involvement, asks himself the question whether I could hold on for three more years.

"Obviously, it makes you think about it. I just know that such reluctance is not so important abroad.

"I would just like to put a possible departure in a family context. As I wish my children to speak English, let's say I am not impervious to the Premier League.

"When I speak with all the players that are in England, they all say being a footballer there is another job.

"For a keeper it is even more exciting because there is physical involvement.

"But if a club like Barcelona, Milan, Real (Madrid) or Bayern (Munich) calls you, it is difficult to refuse."
