Thompson boost for Leeds

Alan Thompson has won his appeal for wrongful dismissal and had a ban overturned.

Leeds' desperate bid to beat the drop has been given a much needed boost with the news Alan Thompson has won his appeal for wrongful dismissal.

Thompson was facing the prospect of a three-match suspension after being sent off for violent conduct in Saturday's defeat at Southampton.

Referee Tony Bates adjudged Thompson to have acted in a violent manner when grabbing Southampton midfielder John Viafara around the throat.

However, a Football Association disciplinary panel has now reviewed the case and subsequently overturned the red card.

The former Celtic midfielder has established himself in Dennis Wise's first team at Elland Road but had he not won his case, then his season would have drawn to a premature conclusion.

Thompson will now be available for Leeds' final two league games of the season against Ipswich and Derby respectively.
