Coventry confirm Cameron exit

Iain Dowie has confirmed Colin Cameron will leave Coventry at the end of the season.

Colin Cameron will leave Coventry City at the end of the season after Iain Dowie confirmed he is not being offered a new contract.

The 34-year-old's agent Jim McArthur told Skysports.com earlier this week that his client was on the lookout for a new club.

Cameron has become dispensable at the Ricoh Arena after starting just 18 games this season due to injury.

The former Hearts and Wolves midfielder joined Coventry last summer, but will spend just one season with the club.

"I'd like to go on record to thank Colin for his service to Coventry City and wish him the very best of luck for the future," Sky Blues boss Dowie told the Coventry Telegraph.

"He is a terrific individual to have around the place and a very good footballer and I have no doubt he will do an excellent job for another club.

"But my job is to improve the squad where I think I can and sometimes that means having to make some very tough decisions.

"It's a shame because he's a terrific lad and I consider him a friend - I hope that he feels the same way."

Dowie has already worked out where improvements are needed for next season and is expected to add around six new players to his squad in the summer.

"We don't score enough, especially away from home, and we concede too many, so we clearly need some better-quality players to revamp the squad," he added.

"We need more pace, we probably need more width and we clearly need a goalscorer.

"I'm looking at bringing in perhaps half-a-dozen in the summer.

"We know some of the players we want. We're very close to two now, possibly three, and we've practically done a deal with a young lad that I know."
