Nigeria suspend Mikel

Nigeria have indefinitely suspended Chelsea star John Obi Mikel from playing for them.

Obi Mikel upset the Nigerian Football Association after he pulled out of the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda earlier this month because of injury.

Chelsea said the midfielder underwent treatment for the injury in London, but they failed to release him for independent assessment by Nigeria's medical team.

The 20-year-old was dropped for last weekend's win over Niger and he has not responded to calls to play for Nigeria's Under 23 side.

The NFA has now decided to suspend Obi Mikel from all international action for an indefinite period.
