Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Benjamin Huggel has left the club to return to FC Basel.
Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Benjamin Huggel has left the club to return to FC Basel. The Bundesliga outfit confirmed on Monday that the Switzerland international star would be allowed to return to his homeland after the clubs agreed a fee.
No details of the deal have been officially announced although it is thought that the 29-year-old will cost Basel around é¼400,000.
Huggel joined Frankfurt from Basel in 2005, but failed to hold down a regular first team berth under coach Friedhelm Funkel last season.
With the Euro 2008 tournament in his home country approaching, Huggel was known to be keen on a move that would boost his chances of making Kobi Kuhn's Swiss squad next summer.
He will join former Stuttgart striker Marco Streller who returned to Basel for similar reasons earlier this month.
