Defender signs on for Spireites
Chesterfield's Aaron Downes has signed a one-year extension to his current deal.
Chesterfield defender Aaron Downes has committed himself to the club by signing a one-year extension to his current deal.The Australian is now contracted to The Spireites until 2009, having penned a new deal for the third summer in succession.
Downes has made approaching 100 appearances for the club since arriving in 2004 and forms a key part of Lee Richardson's plans at Saltergate.
The 22-year-old admits he did have other clubs interested in his services, but opted to stay at Chesterfield in hope of a successful season to come.
"Although one or two other clubs were starting to sniff around, I am delighted to be extending my stay at Chesterfield as I just love being here," said Downes.
"Rico (Chesterfield manager, Lee Richardson) is making some great changes to the squad and I hope the fans will back us all the way to promotion next season."
