Trio jostle for Jagielka
Bolton and Wigan have enquired about Phil Jagielka, but Everton remain favourites.
Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic have enquired about Phil Jagielka, but Everton remain favourites to sign the Sheffield United captain. The versatile Jagielka is keen to play in the Premier League next season and has attracted the interest of three top-flight clubs.
The Blades are prepared to allow Jagielka to move on over the summer, if the club lose their fight to return to the Premier League.
Everton have already had an offer knocked back, while Bolton and Wigan are also keen to make a bid for the 24-year-old.
Blades chairman Terry Robinson has confirmed the interest in the England B international and acknowledged Everton are in pole position.
"We're waiting to see the outcome of the arbitration," Robinson told the club's official website. "If Sheffield United are reinstated, it's highly unlikely that Phil will leave.
"If we're not reinstated, then he'll invoke the clause in his contract. If we're reinstated we wouldn't even be having this discussion.
"He does want to play Premiership football.
"Phil has a high regard for Sheffield United as we all know, but sometimes it's your own career advancement that comes before other things.
"I spoke to Phil's agent this morning and we're all singing from the same hymn sheet.
"Everton are the favourites - it is Phil's preferred choice. Wigan and Bolton have shown some interest in him, as have Everton."
