The stadium
Euro 2012's easternmost venue. The same design team who were behind the Allianz Arena and the Etihad Stadium drew up the plans for the Donbass Arena and the construction was funded by €320million (£258m) of Shakhtar Donetsk owner Rinat Akhmetov's personal fortune. It was opened in dazzling fashion by a concert from pop superstar Beyonce in August 2009. With UEFA elite status, the Donbass Arena is qualified to host a Champions League final. England will begin their Euro 2012 campaign against France at the stadium before also playing their final group game against hosts Ukraine at the same venue. The Donbass Arena will also hold one of the quarter-finals and a semi-final.
The Fan Zone
Sherbakova Park is positioned close to a giant pond and is just a short walking distance from the Donbass Arena. The bus station is also within close proximity. Sherbakova Park is a 50,000-capacity fan zone and will include three large TV screens for broadcasting all of the live matches during Euro 2012. The area will be open from 12pm to 2am. Entry is free.
The City
Best known for its industrial history and coal-mining background, Donetsk is not exactly a hub of tourism. This was one of the factors behind it being overlooked for the right to host the final. The Lenin Komsomol Park is perhaps the best spot for sightseeing. Close to the Donbass Arena, it offers some sculptures and views of parts of the city.
