Owen Coyle resigns as Ross County manager

Owen Coyle has resigned from his position as manager of Ross County.

The club confirmed the news on Thursday evening.

"Myself and the Chairman had a chat on Monday and after some reflective thought I felt for the good of Ross County - and the challenging situation with my family being in England," Coyle said in a short statement.

"It was in everyone's best interests for me to offer my resignation, which the Chairman duly accepted."

Club chairman Roy MacGregor has thanked Coyle for his time in charge of the team.

"We thank Owen and Sandy for their time at Ross County Football Club and wish them well for the future."

A run of just one win in their last 10 Premiership games had seen the club drop to bottom of the table.

A 4-1 victory over Dundee in early February stood as the only victory for Coyle in 2018, with the club now three points behind 11th-placed Partick Thistle.

In a long career in management, Coyle gained most recognition when taking over at Bolton in the Premier League in 2010.

The 51-year-old took charge of Ross County in September 2017 following a short spell with Blackburn Rovers.
