Niemi extends Fulham stay
Fulham goalkeeper Antti Niemi has signed a new two-year deal at Craven Cottage.
Fulham goalkeeper Antti Niemi has committed his future to the club by signing a new two-year deal at Craven Cottage.Skysports.com revealed last month that the Finnish shot-stopper was in talks about signing a new contract, and he has now put pen-to-paper to keep him with The Cottagers until June 2009.
Niemi joined Fulham from Southampton in January 2006 and instantly became the club's first choice. Last season the 35-year-old made 31 league appearances in a campaign interrupted by injury.
He is the second Fulham player, following defender Zat Knight, to be handed new terms by manager Lawrie Sanchez this summer.
"It is great news that Antti Niemi has committed a further year of his future with Fulham today, and I know that this will also be of great delight to the fans that hold him in such high regard," Sanchez told the club's official website.
"Antti is an integral part of this Fulham team, and his loss last season because of the neck injury sustained against Watford, was, I understand, a testing time for the team, so I'm glad that he is in good health and is committed to us for the next two seasons."
