Alonso keen on Bolton

Real Sociedad's Mikel Alonso is keen to join Bolton next season.

Midfielder Mikel, brother of Liverpool's Xabi Alonso, had a trial with Sammy Lee's side during their pre-season training trip in Austria last week and the player's agent, Inaki Ibanez, is in Bolton to discuss a possible move.

"Bolton have shown an interest in Mikel but no agreement has been reached yet between the clubs," Ibanez said.

"I am trying to negotiate what possibilities there are for Mikel to play here next season.

"Mikel is really enthusiastic about the possibility of playing next season in the Premier League.

"It would allow him to be closer to his brother Xabi and be able to play in the UEFA Cup."

Mikel Alonso has been a regular for Sociedad since he made his debut in the Primera Liga in 2001.

Sociedad were relegated from the Spanish top flight to the Segunda Liga last season for the first time in 40 years.
