Saviola thrilled to join Real

Javier Saviola is hoping to carve out a successful career at Real Madrid.

Javier Saviola is hoping to carve out a successful career at Real Madrid after completing a free transfer to the Bernabeu.

Real confirmed on Tuesday they had sealed the capture of the Argentine forward following his release by Barcelona.

And Saviola is now looking forward to playing a key role in Bernd Schuster's new-look side.

"I have great hopes, to play a lot, to move forward and succeed here," Saviola said as he was officially presented to the Spanish press.

"It's a great opportunity in my career, and I didn't need to think one second more about taking it."

Saviola, who has signed a four-year deal with Real, insists he is under no added pressure because he has joined from fierce rivals Barcelona.

He explained: "I don't feel anything. These are steps in the professional life of every footballer.

"Now I'm at Real Madrid and happy to be here with all of the faith put in me by the club."

Schuster has already signed defenders Christoph Metzelder and Pepe in the past week and also agreed a deal with goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.
