Villa linked with Lens keeper
Aston Villa have reportedly emerged as favourites to sign Charles Itandje.
Aston Villa have emerged as favourites to sign Charles Itandje from Lens, according to reports in France.Itandje admitted last month that he was unsure of his future after Lens signed goalkeepers Vedran Runje and Ronan Le Crom.
He has one year left on his contract but has been linked with several clubs across the continent, including Birmingham, Derby, Racing Santander and Real Zaragoza.
Lyon were also understood to be keen on Itandje as cover for Gregory Coupet, but coach Alain Perrin insists he has no plans to bring the 24-year-old to Stade Gerland.
"We never talked about Charles Itandje," Perrin told L'Equipe.
"As we already have Remy Vercoutre as No.2 keeper, we are not looking for anyone else.
"Moreover, Itandje would not leave Lens to be in competition with Vercoutre."
Lens are reportedly ready to let Itandje leave and L'Equipe claims Villa have entered the race for his signature.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill has said he is planning more signings this summer and there have been rumours that Thomas Sorensen could be on his way out of the club.
